Are Polar Bears Cool?

We’ve covered our Arctic bear buddies before when we looked at 10 facts about these magnificent creatures. Now we’ll take a look at what these guys get up to in their daily lives to survive this harsh environment. Known as the Sea Bear, this white bundle of snow flakes is the only bear that spends so much time in and around the water. Unlike its cousins, Polar Bears mainly eat goodies that come from the sea. The hearty goodness of Seals, Walrus, Whales, Sea-birds, Kelp and Fishies make up most of its diet. For an Apex predator there’s no better feeling than showing who rules the Arctic.

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer

It’s almost Christmas so that means time for Santa and his Sleigh full of presents will be zooming across the globe delivering presents to everyone. It also means that Santa’s eight reindeer, Blitzen, Dasher, Donder, Dancer, Comet, Cupid, Prancer and Vixen have to get fit, and their buddy Rudolph has to polish his shiny red nose!

10 facts about… Sharks!

It’s been a while since we had 10 interesting facts about one of the crazy creatures we love, so this time the turn falls to our lovely friend the shark! Sharks have been in the news a lot recently, and for all the wrong reasons. Furthermore we will add a few false myths regarding sharks; but first lets crack on with 10 facts about sharks.

Southern White Rhinoceros

Our latest photo fact animal is the Southern White Rhinoceros, more accurately known as the Square-lipped Rhinoceros. These guys are larger than their Black counterpart but far less skittish! Dominant males will mark their territory, for example using dung middens, to which they will return repeatedly to top up! There are 5 species of rhinoceros, White, Black, Sumatran, Indian and Javan. Strangely enough as you can see from the picture these guys aren’t actually white but grey!

I Thought Birds Lived In Trees

Where do owls live? These feathery friends are a little confused me thinks… surely they should be living in trees just like all other birds? Nope, they can’t be bothered with that so they have decided to live underground by inhabiting the burrows of other animals. Some might call it lazy, I call it resourceful. Meet the Burrowing Owl.

Probably The Cutest Animal In The World?

Looking a bit like Gizmo the Gremlin, Bush babies are probably one of the cutest and bounciest creatures out there. With large droopy eyes this little furry fellow likes cuddling up with its buddies during the day after a long night leaping between the trees and catching insects.

Bush babies are Primates (like humans and monkeys) and part of the Lorisidae family. There are over 15 species, with more still being discovered. Well known species include the Greater Bushbaby, Lesser Bushbabies and Needle-Clawed Bushbabies. Named due to its large eyes and a baby-like cry, they are also called Galagos meaning Little Night Monkeys in Afrikaans. Gizmo The Gremlin
